Since the mid-1060s, composer-performer David Rosenboom has developed unique circuitry and software for making musical models of the wondrous natural world come alive. Traversing the raucous and the sublime, ROUNDUP TWO presents live performances with vacuum tube analog computers, solid-state manifestations of chaos and harmony, musical interventions on political tunes, virtuoso performers interlinked with hybrid processing, and more. ROUNDUP TWO is an essential, historical document containing important examples from a sixteen-year period in this innovative artist’s extraordinary, pioneering work.
B.C.-A.D. (The Moon Landing) (1969), with Salvatore Martirano, is a live electronics duet with Rosenboom's invented, chaotic sub-harmonic generator circuits, performed simultaneously with the first landing on the moon; Musical Intervention 1979 is an electronic reprocessing of the Chilean national anthem made originally for a performance art piece with Eugenio Tellez; Four Soundings from URBOUI (1968) is live electronic music composed for a landmark production of Alfred Jarry's play, Ubu Roi, directed by Henry A. Wicke in Buffalo in 1968; Zones of Influence, Part I, The Winding of a Spring (1984) is the first movement of a five-part, concert length work for percussion interfaced to a computer music system, including the Touché, written for and performed by William Winant and heard here in its premiere performance; Music for Analog Computers (1968-1969) is a mix of live performance material made with a vacuum tube analog computer and other solid state circuits invented by Rosenboom; Musical Intervention 1982 is another electronic reprocessing for a piece with Eugenio Tellez, this time of the Internationale; and Trio II (1978) is improvisation with interlinked electronic processing, including Michael Byron (trumpet) and William Winant (percussion), in a performance at The Kitchen Center in New York in 1978.
